Bradwell Windmill is one of the most distinctive landmarks in Milton Keynes, and is thought to be the oldest tower mill in the whole of Buckinghamshire. The Grade II-listed structure was chosen to feature on the first set of postcards and advertisements to tempt people to the new city.
Supported with a £250,000 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Bradwell Windmill will shortly undergo essential repairs to fix infrastructure and preserve its historic features.
Led by Milton Keynes City Council, The Bradwell Windmill Project celebrates the heritage and history of Bradwell Windmill as a key heritage and community attraction for Milton Keynes. As well as major restoration works to the mill itself, there will be a public programme inviting local residents to build a deeper connection with the history of the area, the site, the natural environment and food heritage. The project will also improve how the site’s unique history is shared, making it easier for residents and visitors to learn about its past.
The Bradwell Windmill Project started in May 2025 and will run until the end of 2026. To stay informed of developments, or to check for upcoming events, please go to our website,
